Why are you seeking office?
South Suburban Park and Recreation District is one of the premier Park and Rec Districts in the country, being named a finalist for the National Recreation and Park Association’s Gold Medal Award three out of the last four years. I believe my years of experience in business and government have been of great value to the District in dealing with the issues that come before the Board. I enjoy being involved in my community and giving of time to those amenities such as South Suburban that make the South Metro area a better place to live.
How have you contributed to the community?
In addition to serving in elected positions for 15 years, I served on the City of Littleton Planning Commission for 20 years. I currently serve on the Board of the South Metro Housing Options (Littleton Housing Authority) and on the Board of the Hudson Gardens Foundation. I also served on the Arapahoe County Judicial Facilities Task Force as well as the Littleton Littleton Public Schools Transportation Committee, 21st Century Task Force and Facilities Use Task Force.
What are the biggest issues facing your constituency?
To continue as an outstanding organization South Suburban must remain financially strong to ensure that funds are available to maintain our many facilities, parks, trails, open spaces and programs, as well as investing in our capital projects. Many of our facilities are aging and will require significant capital investment in the future if we are to continue providing positive experiences for all of our user groups. We must also continue reducing our water costs by upgrading our out-dated, inefficient park sprinkler systems and developing ways to use more non-potable water for the watering of our parks and fields.
